Audio and Music
In my Intro to Media Production class, we were required to do an audio project that consisted of reading a short excerpt from a book or poem. We were not allowed to record ourselves reading but could do our own credits at the end. My very good friend, Jacque Martin, read a short excerpt from The Secret Life of Bees, and the background music is from the YouTube Music Library.

This project served as our introduction to Adobe Audition.
In my Audio Production class, we had to create a radio commercial on a random given topic and have natural sound and foley included. Natural sound includes the piccolo, flute, and piano sounds. The elephant sound is foley. The children yelling and the music are both from the YouTube Audio Library.
As our final project in my Audio Production class, we had to create a radio play or a podcast on an idea of our choosing. Because music is such a huge part of my life and time in college, I chose to create a radio play showing somewhat of an exaggeration of a private clarinet lesson. Because of the COVID19 pandemic, I was unable to use professional equipment and had to use my cellphone along with making what I had at home work since I could no longer be on campus (where my original idea took place).

It is supposed to be slightly comical with the pitched-down teacher's voice and dramatic with the overacting frustration and ultimate meltdown of the student. Overall, I enjoyed creating this project and learning new techniques in audio recording and new effects in Adobe Audition.

At the recommendation of my professor, I downloaded audio tracks from Telefunken for more practice of mixing and mastering audio. With the help of Pro Tools, in addition to what Telefunken had added in the recording process, I added compression, EQ, Reverb, and Trim throughout. I wanted a heavy bass, and I believe I was able to achieve that. From the original audio tracks, I removed a few tracks that I felt took away from the sound instead of adding to it. While I do not have access to auto-tune at the moment, I believe I achieved what I wanted with this track. I am hoping with further education I can improve beyond this.

In order to get more practice in mixing and mastering, I found audio files on Cambridge Music Technology that allowed this. "Long Way Home" is my current best example from this website. Through Pro Tools, I added slight reverb on the lead vocal track as well as EG and compression throughout. I wanted to keep most of the instruments' true colors, so I chose not to go too heavy on plug-ins for them. No tracks were deleted, and I believe I achieved a decent balance between instruments. I enjoyed this process and learning what I like when mixing music, and I think I definitely like indie and rock so far.

In MUS 340, this was our semester-long class project. Every week, my classmates and I would take turns coming into the studio (due to Covid regulations) and would record different sessions. Vocals were sung by one of my classmates, Hayes Laporte. We each took home with us the best tracks from the session and created our own mix with them. Then, at the end of the semester, we had one-on-one meetings with our professor to do a quick lesson on mastering before sending it to tape. This is the final tape track of my mix. This process taught me a lot about the time it takes to record all parts, mix them together, and then master into a stream-ready sound. It also taught me how important analog can be if you want a certain sound in your mix.
